Pain is something we all often suffer from and most of the times do not take it seriously. However, sometime a usual sounding pain can be an indication of something serious. Neck pain is something that is considered a common medical condition.  However, if its persists it can be a knocking for a number of disorders or diseases.  This is why pain in your neck should not be taking that lightly.

Neck pain causes can include serious conditions like degenerative disc disease, herniated disc, neck injury like whiplash, strain in neck or a pinched nerve.  Neck pain may also be an indication of severe medical conditions like osteomyelitis, septic discitis as well as meningitis. Neck pain also referred as cervical spine pain may also be a result of conditions like polymyalgia rheumatica or fibromyalgia that affect the muscle of the neck directly.

Usually neck pain is often associated with a dull aching sensation which is worsened in severe cases by sudden movement of the neck like jerking or turning of the head.  Other neck pain symptoms include numbness, tenderness, tingling, sharp shooting pain, light-headedness, dizziness and swelling of the lymph node.

Neck pain symptoms can also include headaches, pain in the shoulders, facial pain, numbness in the arm, pain in the upper and lower back which is common when a person in suffering from Ankylosing spondylitis – also known as inflammation of the spine.

Neck Pain Causes

There can be numerous causes of neck pain and they can range from being harmless to severe conditions. The most well known causes of neck pain includes: Arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, bone fracture, degenerative disc disease, Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis, fibromyalgia, herniated disc, pinched nerve, sciatica, rheumatoid arthritis, meningitis and osteoarthritis.
